My experience at the Facebook Developer Conference 2019 (F8) šŸ‘ · 1 minute read ·
The Facebook Developers Conference was truly an experience. It was my first developer conference and it did not disappoint.

From the moment we arrived in San Jose, CA at the convention center, I was in awe of the branding and attention to detail. We were giving name tags, t-shirts, water bottles, hats, and more swag.

The keynote by Mark Zuckerberg was exciting to see. I was amazed to see all of the new UI and features coming from Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus. Notably Facebook Dating (lol), business features, and the Oculus Quest (which Zuck gave to us all for free!).

We were then let into the main room where everything was on display! New Facebook/Instagram UI on big screens, Oculus demos, Portal demos, AI information/demos, facial/body tracking software demos; just to name a few things.

The sessions were both informative and exciting. I went to more of the development-geared sessions and learned a lot. It was great to hear directly from some of the developers that worked on redesigning Facebook desktop/mobile, new Messenger integrations, and the React JavaScript framework.

After each day there was an afterparty. There were arcade games (Mortal Kombat 2!), basketball hoops, a DJ, free food, and great music. I meet a lot of great people that really inspired me to do a lot more learning and developing.

I truly enjoyed myself and feel that Iā€™m a better developer due to the experience. I really appreciate my company for providing the opportunity.
